Can adults learn to ice skate?  ABSOLUTELY!

There's no age that's too old to start ice skating. Ice skating is a fun, full body, physical activity for all ages that will help improve balance and coordination, on and off the ice. Ice skating will also help sharpen mental focus, reflexes, and muscle tone. It's a fun workout that also offers social opportunities with other Adult Skaters. As long as you're in reasonably good health and can balance on one foot, you're a good candidate for skating.

Learning to skate as an adult is different than learning as a child. Children are still building neuro pathways and motor skills, so when you learn as a child, your brain gets "wired" for skating, much like when they learn to ride a bike  They also have little to no fear of falling.  Adults are learnng a new physical skill, that becomes a conscious recall not a wired reflex (like a child), and adults definitely fear falling.  This means adults require a more measured, careful approach to learning, making sure the adult skaters not only build a strong basic foundation, but do so at their own pace that they are safe and comfortable with.

Do I have to do Jumps? They look scary...

Nope!  There are tons of fun things you can do in skating with no jumping required.  One of the most fun - Ice Dancing!  Once you get the basics down,  you can start to learn to Ice Dance. Ice Dance consists of both set pattern dances and free dance. Our Ice Dance Session at Skating Edge Ice Arena on Thursday nights is a fun social session to pratcie your ice dance skills and socialize with other Adult skaters.
